Today, Graylyn wrote her first word on her own. We were ordering lunch when she said, “Look, it’s Pop!” She had written P-O-P on her placemat. Pop is her name for my father, whom she was sitting next to.
It’s clichéd and boring to brag about your kids, but Graylyn really has a gift for language. She knew her alphabet by her 1st birthday. Her love of books is nothing short of voracious. She’s only three, but she can write letters and knows their primary sounds. She can tell you what letter a words starts with most times, just from hearing it. She’s starting to do some basic reading by sounding letters out. She sounded out the word “Saturn” the other day. And now I guess she’s figured out that if you can write letters, if you put ‘em in the right order, you can write words too.
In the hustle to get out of the restaurant, I left that sheet of paper there. I’m still kicking myself for doing that, so the least I could do is blog about it.
