Even grandiose visions need to start with a single step. In fact, they’re just a bunch of single steps. I guess that makes grandiose visions pretty much the same as little ideas. They only differ in terms of complexity and time. Complexity itself can be avoided by breaking things down as granularly and simply as possible.

Birthday

I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to
     you.

I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of
     summer grass.
My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this
     soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same,
     and their parents the same,
I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.

I understand why some blogs make you sign in to post a comment, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. It’s also a serious impediment to actually garnering comments.

I need music to make me feel human. That’s why I’m not generally a fan of electronic or techno music. I don’t know of any band besides Radiohead who can pull off the electronic stuff while retaining their humanity. Then again I haven’t dug too hard for it either.

I think I’ve fully recovered from college. After years of feeling obligated to read certain things, I’m feeling an urge to read some good literature.

So that I'm not just ranting

I’ve gotta say that I’m proud of my generation and our ability to see through the bullshit that corporate media is spoon-feeding the rest of the country. I mean, Ron Paul wins every online Republican poll, even though news outlets don’t report it as such.

We’ve basically pushed Obama to the front of the the Democratic race, even though business-as-usual Hillary is the officially sanctioned candidate.

We trust the collective and populist wisdom of the internet more than the sanitized and covertly edited drivel that traditional media outlets push, and we are more well-informed as a result.

So there.

Reason

I’ve always liked Reason magazine so reason.tv has me particularly psyched.

I’ve always though of Drew Carey as a an innocuous wisecracker type, not even particularly funny, just endearing and non-threatening. So I’m surprised to see him doing something (presumably) political with his reason.tv series. Guess I’ll find out for sure when I watch.

Good Morning

Got up early to workout. Decided: I should be logging my workouts. Wrote a quick Rails app to do that, then I worked out and ate my own dog food with the app. It’s still got a ways to go to be truly good and useful, but I’m happy with what I was able to get done in under an hour. Workout is done and I’ve got a fun little app. All before 8am. It’s a good morning.
